Oh boy. I mean, I'm just a beginner myself, but I have tried just about everything to treat the fungal rot and possibly bacterial infection in mine. I started by just shaking out some of the median and reoptting in bark, but I think the bark was bad because everything went downhill fast from there. I have had really good luck with Physan 20, but if you don't have access to that (and really, what beginner keeps Physan around the house?) then start with brown Listerine from the drugstore. You can douse the roots in it, or even soak the roots in a watered down solution of it.

It just really looks like a bad plant to me, but if you want to try to save it, start with Listerine, make sure your bark is fresh, and order some Physan 20 ASAP. And much luck to you, this seems like a really big project for a beginner. I know I wouldn't have been able to save it!!

Most of the roots are dead. There may be some that are alive.

Here's a link to some info on orchid roots along with a photo of what a strong healthy one looks like.
