hi, i got a phalaenopis orchid 5 days ago. a few days ago i realised one leaf has bent/creased and the area where it bent/creased has gone a brownish colour.
should i suppourt the leaf and hope it will recover? or should i cut the leaf off?
another leaf has a few very faint brown splodges on it. i sprinkled cinnamon over the leaves today to kill the fungus if there was any. any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks
Hi, and welcome. I would cut it off with a sterile blade or scissor. It won't come back to life, but the remaining part of the leaf should be just fine.
hi, Just my worth...
First of all the damaged part of the leaf won't recover. ..
If it were mine I would leaveit alone alone a part of it will go dry and you can cut the dry bit off as & when it dries. I would wipe the cinnamon off the leaf where you have sprinkled . Cinnamon has a drying effect and is used only on 'wounds' to help scar the plant tissue.
if it is not soft and mushy at the brown area leve it alone and when it drys out some you can trim it later...you may be surprise at how well they can survie a break and still with just a bit of a good connection stay alive and helping feed the plant
hi thanks so much for the help-i think i will cut off the leaf.i just want to say that it is brown and mushy around the area where it is broken. thanks
Is it possible to tape it? If so, go to a florist and buy 1/4" green adhesive florists tape. (Make sure it's adhesive and not stretchy). Make a butterfly across the break. This tape will last for a couple of years as it's made to be waterproof.
If it's mushy then cut it off. Cut off all the mushy portion.
Use the cinnamon on the cut when you remove it, that should stop the infection (which is what is causing the mushyness) or another infection from getting into the cut.
