Question Rot and brown pseudobulbs

Two questions today....
One of my oncidium hybrids is doing great, it has 3 or 4 new shoots and one of them has a new spike developing! However, one of the old pseudobulbs is starting to turn brown and it looks like it's dying. Should I remove this or should I just let it dry out on its own?

I'm wondering because my Burrageara Living Fire "Glowing Embers" has totally rotted and died and I'm afraid the browning pseudobulb on my oncidium will cause the rest of the plant to rot. I first noticed the rot on the Burrageara when I realized the newest leaves of the new leads were brown. They've been turning browner and browner and the biggest pseudobulb has turned mushy and brown.

Today I gently pulled on one of the new shoots and the whole thing slid off the plant in a greasy mass. It was rotted all the way through. There are still 2 old leafless pseudobulbs on the plant that are green, and I'm wondering if it's possible to cut off the dead parts of the plant and get a new shoot to grow from these bulbs?

Any ideas would be great.
