Need help with Truth "Silver Chalice"

Hi. I'm brand new to this site. Have had some really good experiences with orchid growing several years back. Now I have a huge yard in San Francisco. I just bought a beautiful 3 spike Truth "Silver Chalice". Took a while to be able to identify it online, but did. Now I'm looking for lighting, watering, medium and temperature suggestions. Anyone have any? Thanks alot. Some great comments and pics on here. Rob.

This is an old thread and you may find as a result you don't get many responces (although you might). If you don't try posting a new thread asking the question. Often people read the first post in a thread and respond to that and don't notice if there are questions further down.

According to Orchidwiz (how did I ever do anything before OW??? ):

Bak. Truth is composed of species of which 49% take medium light, 19% take high light and 13% take low light. It may be tolerant of dappled light conditions.

It also says that this one takes a wide temp range, from Cool to Hot so I don't think you need to be overly concerned with that.

There's no humidity info but now that you've asked the question, your new friends here at OB may come upwith some personal experience to pass along

If I may make a small suggestion...

When referring to a plant please include the genus name or the intergeneric name of the plant at least once in the post, regardless of how popular the plant is in cultivation. It makes it easier for people to know what you're talking about and respond.

Grex names and cultivar names can sometimes be shared amongst completely different orchids.


In this case, it would be an intergeneric Oncidium that is more akin to Odontoglossums.

So, I would say intermediate temperatures.

Moderately bright indirect light as per Oncidiums.

Evenly moist. Best to allow it to dry out just a tad before watering.

Medium grade bark is good.
