Default Another of my phals repotted today

Hi there OB,

Thought i'd post some pics of another of my phals i repotted today.

I let it soak in a bucket to remove all the old medium and presoaked some orchid mix, i use a small and medium douglas fir bark, perlite and sponge mix, this has worked really well for my other phals.

I left the spikes on for now as one is still in flower, i find the canes hold the plant stable till it gets well established in the new medium.

Wonderful photos and great flowers.
Just wondering what you do to get the leaves looking so healthy?
I can't seem to get them looking near that.......
Karl.

Hi karlos,

I brought this phal about 3 months ago, and i searched through quite a few phals to get the best looking one with the really healthy leaves.

I just make sure the plant is watered correctly and fertilized, i just give the leaves a wipe every now and again with water.

I had that to begin with and I just could not understand what I was doing wrong. I'm now pretty sure that it was down to the medium I was using, not had a problem since I changed to a higher quality one from an orchid specialist. I had previously been using stuff from the local garden center and I now believe it was already decaying in the bag.

Yes i did a lot of research before i brought my medium, i went with the multi purpose orchid mix from orchidaccessories.co.uk this a really good quality mix, it smells like a fresh fir tree :-)

my first repot in this medium is going really well

here is a pic, it was repotted in march, this was my first orchid brought for me as a gift, it means a great deal to me.

Yeah, I had the problems like RJ reports of not knowing whey they kept dying UNTIL I used the OrchidAccessories stuff. As you say it smells really fresh and it's absolutly bone dry. I love it, I have seperate ingrediants from them and mix them myself but I think it's the same stuff he just mixes it for you if you get one of his mixes.
