Well, I'm moving and...

I wanna know what's the best way to move my plants. I plan to relocate to another apartment in late September, and am still unsure how I should transport my plants (since I don't have a car). I'm wondering if I should pack them into boxes and let the movers take them to my new home, where I could then put them back out in the balcony. I also have the option of moving plants in groups from point A to point B. Either way, the good news is that the other apartment is facing north like this one, so I wouldn't have to acclimatize my plants to higher light levels.

What do you think?

wrap em in newspaper and box em up....it wont hurt em to travel for a day or two....up to 5 days actually....just wrap em good and tape em up....let them dry out pretty good first you dont want em wet while wrapped up out of the air and light....are you watching the movers? dont let em sit those boxes of plants in the sunlight! keep them in the shade and under your supervision....gl!

I must admit when we moved I moved my plants myself and I think I'd do it myself if we moved again. I just don't trust removalists to treat them with the care needed. I suppose it depends how many you have and what stage they are at eg: in spike etc.

Mind you, if we moved again I think I'd have to get rid of half of the 300+ orchids I have now! LOL

Can you find a friend that will help you, ? Put out a request on the social group and see if anyone is near by? I'd rather try and move them myself if at all possible.

I moved recently (changing appartment, changing city, changing country) and I decided to move all my plants myself too (a company was responsible for moving all my good, but notthe plants!). I don't have a car either, but asked some friends to help me with this task... it took several trips and several days, but it was worth the extra work (we moved about 300 plants!).

if your plants will not be traveling for more than one day, there is no need to wrap them in newspaper. Just put them in a box (that you can close, in case it is too cold the day you move... but ok, you are in florida, I do not think it will be too clod in September) and that's it... think easy... Orchids tolerate A LOT more than what most people think... they will not mind the move...
