Exactly! It helps prevent chemical "burning", and is also wasteful of the fertilizer so you buy more.

Rachele, the calculations are (for 125 ppm N):

10 ÷ %N on label = teaspoons per gallon

or

13 ÷ %N on label = milliliters per liter

To fertilize or not to fertilize... That is my Question Female
Question Fertilizing Exposed Roots

OK... So I have been having problems with root rot (overwatering) I just can't bring myself to "leave them be" so I removed my phals From their medium, snipped the rotted roots, and mounted them to a piece of driftwood. now they look more natural, and I can monitor their roots and water them accordingly. My only question is. Should I continue to water them once a week with fertilizer and then spray them between that period when they need it??? Or is there a different way of fertilizing orchids with exposed roots????

I'm not sure what you're meant to do, but I fertilise my mounted orchids once a week and use plain water the rest of the week.

I either use a fertliser mix in a spray bottle, or dump the entire thing, mount and all, into a fertiliser mix.
