I'm so excited about this find, I have to share! I work next to a Trader Joe's so it is our daily lunch place, and on my way in the door today, wallowing in a horrible mood, I allowed myself to peruse the orchid section to see what new plants they got in. It always cheers me up to spend some time with the orchids. Usually they are the standard Phal/Oncidium/Cattalaya NoID's, and usually in somewhat poor condition.
Today, however, I spotted a flash of purple and green among the usual mix nestled in the back, and something clicked on in my brain. I got tunnel vision... It literally called to me. I wrestled it out of it's nest, making sure to not damage any of the plants, and stared at 5 GIGANTIC pseudobulbs in pristine condition; no spotting, yellowing, or browning. That was when I turned the plant around and came face to face with the most amazing, perfect, beautiful Zygopetalum flower I've ever seen in a grocery store.
Now, understand, Zygo's are my absolute favorite orchid of all time, and I have another hybrid growing at home on which which I am eagerly awaiting spikes. And here I was, being blessed with the gorgeous, spikey blooms and hyacinth scent of the most perfect orchid TJ's has ever seen!
I have not potted it yet due to the fact that I need more orchid bark, but this weekend it will be placed in its home and watered. I just had to share with you all, and hopefully someone can tell me what the exact species is, since it's a NoID. I'm so in love!!
