Lycaste aromatica blooming habit
Hi all. I have an observation about the flowering habit of Lycaste Aromatica (LA) and would like to know if anyone else has observed this.
I have 4 pots of LA. 3 are from the growth and repotting of a single plant so the 3 pots are vegetatively the same plant. The 4'th pot of LA I bought from Jim Rice (Homer, NY) before his death some years ago. In the spring, the 3 pots of LA start growing their new leaf(s) for the new pbs before the flower stalks come out. Each plant then averages 4 to 7 blooms.
The 4'th pot of LA is a bit different. It produces 3 to 5 flowers before any leaves appear for the new pbs. By the time the flowers are dead, the new leaves are starting to grow.
I have seen this behavior for a number of years so it is not a one shot deal. All 4 pots are in my greenhouse and receive the same watering and light. All 4 plants have pbs and leaves that look the same, have the same flower shape, color and odor (if the mood hits them).
Does anyone have any thoughts about this?
