I doubt that it's the sphag that's still alive. For one the sphag we buy in bags is long dead usually, and using fertilized water on the mounts would kill it anyway. I also think it's either algae (which does not necessarily scrape off) all my mounted orchids sphag turns green with algae after a few months, or it's like Nenella's and there's a species of moss that colonized the mount.

Nenella, are those your Haraella? They look so healthy! Do you have a terrarium for them? Mine doesn't look nearly as pretty.

If it's like Nenella's then I think it's a moss that grows locally to you which has colonised the mount. I don't think there is any harm in it, your probably fine to just leave it.

Yes they are my Haraella and I suppose you could call it a terranium?
Harries live with Aerangis punctata, phal lobbii,in one of my 5L 'water bottles' - I got from the office which hubby kindly cuts for me so I can take the 'top' off... my equestris, Ang.didieri & bellina also live in these bottles...

Yes I agree mine is only moss...'sheet moss 'describes it well. I have never tried to find out the exact name but it grows by itself...
