Miltoniopsis Spike? Female
Default Miltoniopsis Spike?

Hi,

I have a miltoniposis that was given to me at an orchid plant sale draw. It bloomed then finished. Now it is growing small leaves from between the leaves of the pseudo bulb. Is this the beginning of a flower spike? I'm curious as I have never had an orchid bloom in my presence before!

Thanks,
DLKC

Looks like the start of a new p-bulb to me. It's not a spike, but it means that the orchid is happy and growing well.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the quick reply...

I'm a bit bummed that it is not a spike, but at least it is happy How will I be able to tell if it spikes?

Thanks again,
dlkc

Sorry...

But the leaves look like their developing nicely, without pleats - so that means you're watering properly.

A spike will form from the side of one of the p-bulbs and will have a pointy tube that pokes out.

Good luck.

Hi, I agree with jrod, looks like a new growth to me. Shows that your orchid is a happy camper

Looks like a new growth, but mine grew two of these and I've just spotted a spike in the middle of the larger of the two. The growth is about half the height of the leaves on the older p-bulbs and the spike is coming up hidden amoungst it's leaves.

I think Miltoniopsis spike on new growths so with any luck your new growth will mean a spike will be along later.
