Sounds like an odd question for my physician... sorry.

What do you suppose this thingy is? It showed up a week or two ago on the second orchid that I ever acquired - a good looking purple noid phal from IKEA. The phal is doing well despite suffering a majority of my mistakes - err, I mean "teachable moments".

Anyway, is this a keiki? I've never seen one from a spike before in my collection and that would be really cool.

What do you think?

Nasty growth, I'd get it seen to if I were you!

It's either a keiki or a new spike coming from the node of your phal spike. Congrats.........you're having a baby!

A node that far down on the inflorescence is usually a branch that will bear flowers.

it does not look like a keiki to me. I think it's a new spike.
