Just bought 3 new orchids...need help!
Default Just bought 3 new orchids...need help!

Hi Im new to the boards, and I need some help with a newly found orchid addiction I was in the FL keys and bought 3 new orchids, I live in VA so I need help with how to care for them *its so easy that far south in FL, but way different up here* ...here are the names of the 3 that I have, if anyone could tell me the best way to care for them. *how much sun, water...anything else special I need to do?*

1~ Mokara Sayan x ascda. bangkhuntian gold *Mokara Moonlight 'tangerine'

2~ ascda. Fuchs Sunkist 'Orange glow' FCC/AOS
(ascda. yasothon x ascda. laksl)

3~ Dendrobium pinwathana 'Tree of Monkey'

I also got clippings of Schomburgkia also.

Im going to have to nurse them back to health because we had to drive from the tip of FL to Va, and I think they got too much sun in the back because some of the leaves have yellowed and the flowers are dying Someone please help me save my beautiful orchids!

Well I'm also a newb with orchids, but like you, I'm pretty obsessed already. Case in point, I had three glasses of wine the other night after a long day and ended up ordering 5 new 'chids online. My husband is going to kill me.

But I simply must know what the Tree of Monkey looks like! I'm having trouble finding anything online... Any other info on that one?

Welcome to Orchid Board.

I'm afraid I can't help much with those orchids, I can't find the dendrobium name registered either as a species or a hybrid on the KEW websites so I'm not sure if that name is right or not. There are several wide ranging types of Dendrobium so we really need to find what type it is to advise on care.

Can you post a picture of your Den, that might help with advice on it.

The other two are in the Vanda family I believe, I'll see if I can find more info on them in a momment.

Both the first two are registered hybrids.

Just as a note the first one would usually be written as Mokara Moonlight 'tangerine' (Mokara Sayan x ascda. bangkhuntian gold) similar to the format of the second one. The Mokara Moonlight is the name of the hybrid, the 'tangerine' is a clone name for the specific plant, and the part in brackets is the name of the parents of the hybrid.

I can't find much on care advice, hopefully someone else can help. It's in the Vanda alliance so I guess the closest I can give is the AOS vanda care sheet.
