I'm afraid I can't find any reference to an Alligator Orchid Jim, never heard of it here but then common names of orchids can vary arround the world and tend to just be 'local names'. For example the 'Ghost Orchid' here in the UK refers to a completely different orchid to the 'Ghost Orchid' found in the Florida swamps. Basically 'Alligator Orchid' could be a common name used locally in one area, the use of which has not spread.

Yeah, that's what I figured. I have not been able to find any reference to the "Alligator Orchid" and where. I'm not sure where else to look.

Well, if you are sure it is a Florida native species and white to light green, you have really narrowed down the possibilities. That is why we all assumed you meant the Ghost orchid. The flower does resemble a white frog when fully open. Frog ... alligator. So, some connection there, too. We have several OB members that spend all their free time out in the glades looking for orchids (to view them, not collect). One of them is bound to check in here soon and they may offer another possibility.
