Hiya,

Can a orchid that's mounted to cork or wood be dismounted without to much damage to the roots? If possible how would I go about doing it besides carefully? I find it "easier" to deal with a clay pot then a mount for watering.

Secondly mostly this is just a odd ball question. Can a orchid be wick watered?

Yes. Is the mount small enough to place inside a bucket full of water? It has to be soaked for a good long while. I'd say at least 15 minutes. I've done it for 2 hours.

Secondly what is wick watered? Sounds like fun.

Swamper, you have a dirty mind. I like this.

Anyway, Yes. Like Swamper mentioned, you just have to soak sufficiently so that the roots are pliable and thus are able to be removed without too much damage.

#2--I think you may be referring to a potting method wherein the medium wicks water to the plant---maybe semi-hydroponics? If so, then you may want to check out the s/h forum on the OB. :0

Maria, you nut. You're funny as heck.

By subliminal message I was trying to send the message to call it an orchid rather than a orchid.

Swamper,peeweelovesbooks

I appreciate the response's. However I do have one other question.

How do you go about dealing with the long roots that once surrounded the mount to making it fit in the pot? A lite trim or just wrap them up and stick them in the pot??

You know I've never done that. I've always replaced a pot with a mount. I find this way to be much easier, but that's just me. I guess I would really like to see a picture before I say anything else. This orchid is not a vanda?

Not a Vanda but a Masdevallia exquisita. Now mind you I haven't purchased the plant yet. all I have is what the vendor has on their website.

Andy's Orchids - Orchid Species - Masdevallia - exquisita

Oh wow how beautiful and so is THE MOUNT arrrgh. If you have to take it off the mount and put it in a pot then I guess that's your right anyway to answer your question, I don't think that plant is going to have such long roots that you will need to worry about trimming them so you can just lay or spread them in the pot.
