The older bulbs will shrivel a bit as newer ones develop. If the bulb that holds your flower spike is hard and smooth and your leaves are not wrinkled then the plant is OK.

Miracle Gro makes an "orchid mix" that is more soil based. It does not work for your kind of orchid. Be sure and get something that is a bark mixture and very chunky.

I agree with Nutgirl about the Miracle Gro mix...I believe you would be better off with a chunky bark mix that would allow for more airflow around the roots. I tried the Miracle Gro mix when I first started out with orchids - I had a NOID Phal and an Oncidium 'Sharry Baby' - and I almost lost both of them to root rot because the mix took so long to dry out.

Keep in mind that your watering habits might have to change if you switch to a bark mix. It will dry out much faster than the moss, so you may need to water once a week. In my growing conditions, I soak my plants for 10 minutes once a week, and I have found that that schedule works for me.

Good luck!

I haven't re-potted it yet. And I decided not to use the miracle grow crap i got some bark and am adding perlite and stuff to it and I will be adding that when i go to re-pot after it is done flowering. And it's all the p-bulba that are shriveling the older one being the worst looking one and the one with the flowers is just a little wrinkly. Thanks for the help!!

I little shriveling on the lead bulb is not entirely unexpected....flowers take a lot of energy and water to support, so they'll be pulling that from the bulbs. The real key is making sure your roots are good. Old orchid saying: Grow the roots, and the plant will follow.

So my p-bulbs are still shriveled, they got a little bit better after soaking it for an hour or two and the roots are still healthy looking. The buds are starting drop so I think I will re-pot later this week. There is also no new sign of new growth. And the people i have gotten my orchids from their mix holds too much water after the soak almost two weeks ago the skewere still comes out wet. So if I re-pot it should the p-bulbs go back to smooth? When I got them they weren't completely smooth they had some wrinkles.
