Might depend on the type of ant. Though apparently the Australian Ladybird (Cryptolaemus montrouzieri) likes to munch on mealy bugs.
Wonder if the standard ladybird would do the same?.
They will treat them like Aphids (or "Ant Cattle" as I like to call them). Protecting the mealies from predators and parasites.
I know it's possible in the UK to buy "resident" Ladybird larvae. Not sure about over the pond? But it would be worth checking out, especially if your not fond of the chemical options of pest control.
