I repotted one of my phals in march and it seems to have taken to the medium now as i have quite a few aerial roots and a new leaf, my question is what is the best way to keep the aerial roots fresh and for them not to dry up, i tend to water them when i water my phal. should i mist them too?
I tend to mist them 1x per day too. I'm not really sure if this does anything beneficial for the plant... it's more for me - it gives me an excuse to check in on the plants on a daily basis.
I have found that the aerial roots will tend to seek out the moisture. so if you mist low they will start to head downwards, mist high and the will head upwards.
Keeping on a gravel tray and not misting will make them head downwards. Leaving them be is an option so long as the atmosphere around the plants is not overtly dry.
If you do use a hand mister use the finest setting on it. This will help avoid globules of water settling in the crown. Please note I do not mist directly at the crown of the plant. I also mist only in the morning... Usually.

I mist the arial roots on a random basis when I feel like it... I really can't say I do it regularly but I sometimes feel they look a bit dry and get the mister out. I always try and avoid getting the mist on the leaves/crown and put the head of the spray head as close to the roots as possible as I spray.
