New off shoot slightly chipped
Default New off shoot slightly chipped

Hello,
I am definitely a beginner, thus be patient with my non- technical language but please someone give me an answer!

My boyfried gave me a Paphiopedilium orchid in February. The stem had seven flowers which lasted until May, when they all dried and fell off the plant. However, new beatiful and healthy leaves grew together with what look as an off shoot coming out from the main bulk. This morning I saw it was compressd against the edge of the vase, thus gently tried to lift it with my finger. By this slight movement alone the tip of this "root" was chipped off! It is a very, very tiny piece but I am still wondering if I had damaged this off shoot beyond repair! Will the whole root die because of this small damage?
I would be very grateful if anyone could provide for some advise.
Many thanks!

Usually a root will just start an offshoot of that damaged root. One damaged root is not going to kill the plant. It may need less water fot a week or so. This is where you can use cinnamon on a swab to coat the chipped area, to keep any fungi from setting in. The other roots will take over the load. Good Luck! It should be just fine.

More roots will grow, don't worry about it. If your plant is crowded in the pot it might be time to repot in a larger container.
