I've heard a little about soaking recently received orchids in a saturated sugar solution.
Can anyone tell me how much sugar/gal that it takes and how long should they be soaked? Is there any benefit to using a similar solution to revive plants? Tony
I've done this for many years, in particular for newly imported, bare rooted, or shocked plants and I feel it is worth while. Mix 1 tbsp of sugar in a gallon of slightly warm water. Add several drops of Superthrive or a liquid B1 solution if you have it, and soak for 15 minutes or so. When the plants are looking stressed or wilted, it really seems to perk them up!
Thanks Shirley, last night, I tried about 1/2 tsp in a pint (about 1/3 TBS/gal), added a root stimulator and bought two dehydrated Home Depot plants to test it and soak them overnight. I was concerned overnight was too much too long, but they plumped out pretty nicely...
Do you have a good reliable source for imported plants?
Thanks Tony
