Post-Vacation Help for Paph Male
Default Post-Vacation Help for Paph

So... I just got back from a 2 week vacation and I enlisted the help from my father-in-law to tend to the chids while I was out.

He's not a plant person so while he had the best of intentions, the crew was a bit banged up when I got back.

I had a paph that was in bloom when I left - and was in bloom for probably 2 or 3 months. When I came back ... no more bloom and the stem is turning brown.

Should I unpot and check the roots? Do they mind being disturbed? If the medium is broken down what's the conventional wisdom on potting mix? I tend to plant in a bark/charcoal/pearlite mix but I've never repotted a terrestrial before.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

- J

Do you think the Paph was maybe just finished blooming after 2-3 months?
How does the plant look otherwise?
If it's never been repotted - this might be a good time to do that. I have Paphs in a mix of fine and medium fir bark, perlite, bit of charcoal. I have only been growing Paphs about a year and a half, tho, but they seem to be doing well in that mix. I have been told that Paphs should be repotted annually.

I'm sure more experienced Paph growers will be chiming in - gl

I would agree the flower was probably just done blooming.

As for repotting, it's probably a good time. I use a mixture of medium CHC and fine bark for mine (probably 80% fine bark).
