Default orchid pots

Has anyone ever used anything that isn't the conventional clear orchid pot?

I can't get 3 or 4" pots here, actually I can't find them in Canada.

Someone suggestd using pop bottles?

Has anyone ever used clear tupperware or anything else? Pop bottles are very thin and the orchids will tip over.

I am willing to try anything.

Anything type of plastic container will work, you just need to cut drainage holes in them. I have used old yogurt containers, chinese take-out soup containers, V8 bottles with the tops cut off.....the list goes on and on.

You can also put rocks in the bottom of the pot to help weigh it down. Then put the medium on top of the rocks.

Or you can put the plastic pot inside of a clay pot to keep it from tipping.

Hope this helps!

good to hear. I was concerned of any chemical leaking from the plastic and affecting the roots.

Just make sure you wash really well. Don't want the residue of whatever was in the container.

Plus, you're keeping those containers out of the landfills or incinerators. Happy planet!
