Smile Mini Phalaenopsis?

Good afternoon everyone,

I know it might sound a bit silly but I am still very new to orchids and don't know all the shapes and forms and names of them.

My boyfriend got me new orchid few days ago and to me it looks like phalaenopsis but I am not sure as it is so small and tiny. Blossoms are about 1.5 inches diameter, spike is 7-8 inches heigth and all leaves are about 3-4 inches lenght. Is it a baby plant or is it some different kind of orchid?

Thank you

Sorry I am not very sure how to add image. You can see my plant if you go to my photos and the picture is called 'I got it Yesterday'

Hello

Miniature Phalaenopsis sounds right to me.

Without a definite label it may be impossible to find out it's true lineage, but I have seen quite a few miniature Phals for sale a round the various places recently.

If it is flowering I would doubt that it is a baby plant, but can not say with absolute certainty (Still consider myself relatively new to the wonderful world or orchids).

Phals species can vary a lot in size from one to the next, let alone within the vast quantity of Hybrids and Noids that have been derived from the originals. Also check out the Phalaenopsis section of this Forum, it has some interesting info, pictures and links should you wish to learn more.

If you have a picture that would be of extra help in identifying the plant. But my guess is your assumption is correct.

And remember, there are no stupid questions

Yeah, sounds like a Mini Phal to me as well. If the flowers are tiny then the plant is unlikely to get much bigger though it might slightly.

As Triffid has said the parantage of Phals can cause a whole range of sizes. I love the mini ones, but my Mum had a tiny tiny tiny one and I've never seen anything like it since. At the time I saw it I was under the impression it would eventually grow in to a standard size one, but I've since learnt different.
