Thanks Bdelfiero,

The roots are just over 1 inch. I bought it just last Monday in Silang, Cavite for a bargain including 2 Catts. I'll google the native specie to have an idea of the flower. Anyway, there's a spike in the other plant just emerging would it be okay to repot? It will be a challenge for sure being in a clay pot.

From where are you from in the Philippines?

Thanks.

Thanks for the welcome Ted. I'm not really sure if they are separate plants but just in case not would it affect the emerging spike if I separate them?

Zildjian,

In some situation for Phal, they don't mind re-poting while in spike or in bloom, but there are also times they do. It will really depend on how the Phal will adjust to the new media.

I would suggest wait a few weeks before removing the keiki to the mother plant, let the roots grow a little more. Your Plant looks like phalaenopsis schilleriana or Phalaenopsis stuartiana.

I live in Cabanatuan City.

hmm I need to learn that proper care for this specie as I will look forward to see the plant bloom spectacularly. I'll transfer them today in a mounted way. I bought a cocogreen mount in ACE hardware which should be good for this phal. I hope that the two plants are separate so that no cuttings of some sort is needed which I'm afraid of doing.

Hi Zildjian,

Nice to know there's quite a number of Filipinos here I just joined and wanted to ask where's the best place for low-priced but good orchids near Manila

Last week I bought a phalaenopsis which I think is an old one with a keiki on the flower spike and the good thing is that there are two plants in the pot (total of 3 including the keiki). I bought it even w/o knowing what the color of the flower is because it's really a bargain at 150 pesos (~$3). .

hi anc, welcome to the board. check out mujacko2002's thread there are lot of discussions there in where to get cheap orchids mostly species. places like baclaran (never been there to buy orchids), centris sunday market in quezon ave., & manila seedling bank just on the other side of edsa in centris. ofcourse there are farms here in silang/tagaytay area where you can check out several orchids. hehe i can show you if you'd like to explore the silang, cavite farms.

thanks zildjian! will check out mujacko's thread also

would rather not buy from places w/in manila since i think they double the prices from say tagaytay or cavite..

one time i passed by a place onway tagaytay, gintong talutot(?) is that a good place for quality and cheap orchids? aside from there, where in silang, cavite would you recommend? looking for cattleyas or other exotic orchids which a beginner can handle

thanks again!

gintong talulot sells cheap hybrid vandas. price range per cutting is from 90 to 180 pesos. their catts are expensive. i would recommend centris sunday market for cheap catts particularly VS orchids stall. the farms in silang, cavite are rather difficult to find as they don't have signs and the farm itself is not beside major roads unlike gintong talulot.
