Hope springs! New spike?
Default Hope springs! New spike?

My suspicions might be right, but I could also be wrong.

Is this a new spike I see in one of my phals? It started out some weeks ago as just a green knob at the base of the plant, then this green shoot started growing late last week. Hoping for a new spike!

I only see a new root, no spike. But no worries, a new root is the plants opinion that it should continue living!

Yup, a root! You're probably disappointed, but roots are good. Roots and spikes can be easy to distinguish if you know what to look for. Root nubbins are are round with a rounded tip, and spike nubbins, are more flattened with a characteristic mitten shape.
