Hi, I have 3 mini's which are all noids. One is yellow with flowers only about an inch across with dark red splodges. From the surface of the bark to the top of the bloom is less than 6 inches. It is bursting with life, the parent plant has one stem with one bloom and a bud and is just putting out another stem. It also has a basal keiki with a stem and another stem with a keiki which has a stem it's self! Also it's leaves and stems are an apple green and quite fragile.
Another is a biggish plant with lots of branches and had tiny deep purple blooms. All the blooms finished but I left the stem and that now has 6.....yes..6 new growths coming from nodes. The mother is also putting out a stem too.
The third is white and my newest. It has two stems, one in bloom and the other full of buds. It's about 9 inches from bark to top of the blooms.

Both Sogo Phals mentioned are true minis. The size of the flower spikes and the number of flowers increases nicely with age.
I have seen Sogo Vivien several years old and while it does get bigger it is still considerably smaller than regular Phals.
This is especially interesting in that I have Dtps. Sogo Vivien 'Marginatus' which has variegated leaves and is not a miniature so be sure which you are buying.

by the way, if yours is in the same pot as mine, it has no hole in the bottom of the outer pot, so be careful.

I bought mine at a nursey here around where i live. And yes i did noticed that the pot doesn't have a hole I also plan to repot them when they loose blooms to get away from the moss that it appears to be in. I always turn the plants upside down and drain all the water back out after i let it soak for a min.

instead of starting a new thread i'll just ask my question in my old post. My 2 mini's have started to grow new green leaf and one just lost all it flowers. When do i trim the flower stalk back? Its still green right now, do i go ahead and cut it off or wait till it starts dieing?

I usually cut the spikes off once they turn brown, although I have just cut one back which had stayed green for six months but done nothing new with the spikes, so I just cut them off anyway.

There's whole world of compact, mini or novelty phals. Big Leaf Orchids has many of them and so does Norman's Orchids at Orchids.com. Most of my phals are the compact variety. They are often more colorful, bloom for a longer period and some are fragrant. Some have small flowers on branching spikes but many have very short spikes (8" or less). Here is one of my favorites Phal. Orchid World.
