Dendro Blooming In Spite of Me
I have done everything there is to do wrong with this plant (dendro nobile 'Frosty Dawn') and in spite of everything it has rewarded me with a single bloom on last years cane, and that same cane also has an additional bud developing. I didn't know dendros needed a winter nap, so continued to water through the winter. I didn't feed any of my plants from Nov-Mar. I also repotted it in the fall after it finished blooming. It's actually overpotted, but I didn't have a smaller pot at the time. The new cane it sent out last spring has not bloomed yet, not sure if it will at this point. The plant is growing new baby roots like crazy. As soon as the color develops a little more in the flower I'll post a pic. The fragrance is wonderful.

Maybe that's the problem with mine? I tried gowing Dendros like most orchids (follow the care sheets) and give them some care. Now I understand - Let then dry out to shrivelled lumps then throw them away and get something more interesting, like a Brassia or a Phrag - THAT'S IT!

I finally gave my Dendro a dry winter rest. Not sure if it will do anything or not. It was starting to rot at the beggining of the winter, then I just stopped watering it, ignored it and forgot about it, till one day I blew the dust off its leaves, saw new root tips and decided to repot it. Im not watering it again. Maybe this time it will bloom for me

Ok! What is the difference between the Nobile and the Phal Type? And why are they opposites?
Maybe I should just make this a new thread.

As far as I know Phal type don't need long dry winter rest. Short rest with the small temperature drop should be enough.

Yes, I read nobiles need fall and winter dormancy with little water and no fertilizer and cooler nights.
