Not always. If the crown's meristem did get damaged it should throw a basal keiki which would end up being the new crown.

Thanks Ted...I hope It's not because this Phal is old and mature and I'm worried. If its produce a basal keiki it means the mother plant will not bloom again? That I have to remove the keiki from the mother and throw the mother away?

If it throws a basal keiki don't bother removing it, let it grow, the mother plant will die naturally if the meristem is damaged.

Chances are that the leaf will still keep growing, and you'll have a normal leaf with a big chunk missing. But if the leaf broke off from it's base deep inside the crown, you'll quickly get a new leaf unless the meristem was damaged.
