you are doing great from what you have reported ....everyone finds their own medium that works the best for them so it sounds like you will do well with moss for phals.
the other chid you picked up needs a day or so after the roots turn back to the silvery white before watering again do not try and keep the roots the green color of just watered ...that is a common mistake and is overwatering a bit at least.
Thanks everyone for you very constructive comments and helpful insight. I will stick with the moss, as we seem to be getting along rather well. As for the other orchid I have that's potted in orchid bark, I'll be very mindful about overwatering it. So far, it seems to like me since it has new growth (stems and roots) that wasn't there when I picked it up a couple weeks ago. I'm also going to pick up some bamboo skewers...what a great tip!
