Default Dendrobium Unicum death in a flask...deflask?

Hi,

I have some small flasks with 5 plants in each from Thailand. One is a dendrobium unicum.

I have had them on my windowsill, bright lighted, and it appears that one, possibly two, of the five plants in the flask have died. There are a few dead leaves on the agar.

Should I deflask the rest? Is there hope for them?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Danielle

In my experience with flasks, they are shipped when the plantlets are ready to pot out. To delay, even though they seem very small, is to risk multiple problems. I would remove the remaining plants now and put them in a compot.

Den unicum is deciduous and, if the one I used to have is a good judge of the rest, spends most of the time looking like a pile of dead twigs. If you just imported the plants from the other side of the world, the change in light/temperature it's now getting could be telling your plant that its time to go to sleep. Don't give up on them yet.

Unfortunately, I've never deflasked a plant before, so I can't really tell you if it should be done right away or if you should wait to see if they'll perk up again.
