Cattleya seedling - Orchid Board

I have two cattleya seedlings that I re-potted for almost a month now into S/H culture. This morning I checked them and see no development, but some roots are still firm and green because of the constant moisture. Is it normal for Cattleya to adopt longer in s/h? I have Phals re-potted in s/h and see new root growths in just 7 days.

Is it possible that your phal was about to grow those new roots regardless of where it was, well anywhere healthy

Cattleya, in my limited experience, seem to do everything slower and sometimes nicer.

Thanks Swamper, I was thinking that my little Cattleya doesn't want s/h. Maybe I should wait a little more time and see what will happen.

I have had a few Cattleya seedlings that took several months to start sending out new roots. Part of the problem the I could tell was I put them into S/H at the wrong time. Meaning they were not ready to send out new roots yet from their new growth.

Thank you for the info. I think I put them also in the wrong time as they are not making any progress. Should I leave them as it is and wait?

I would leave them in the S/H. They may get a bit dehydrated looking. Just keep giving them a rooting hormone mixed in to the water. It would be a good idea to keep them in a shadier spot until the roots are growing. I have not lost any seedlings yet by putting them into S/H at the wrong time.

if no roots maybe your cattleya isnt properly potted... i hope i can help you but its hard to explain i use a bbq stick and tie using a horticultural wire it at the base of the cattleya. then fit it on your pot... and either use leca or any medium. and do not touch it.. they are sensitive when they are in the stage on growing roots... patience

In general, cattleyas tend to have a much more pronounced grow/rest cycle. The order of things varies depending on what's in the background, but they will often go nearly an entire season doing nothing, once they've finished a growth. When they do start rooting again, there is a big flush of roots starting all at once.
