And some, like Vandas need a lot more light than many might think. Some even acclimate to full sun. Start slow though, they will sunburn just like any other.

I'm on the Gulf Coast, west of you and I had a strange experience with orchids when I first started. The ends of all my new roots were disappearing. They would sometimes go altogether and sometimes just the side or the very end. I could only guess what was happening. Roaches. They were outside and hanging, so rodents were not on the list. I would soak them each week and little critters would float away. Watch for this as it is not fun.

Hi V...welcome to Orchidboard

So, you've been bitten! It's wonderful, isn't it?

Will you be growing indoors or outside? We have lots of members in Florida...some of us grow outdoors and others are growing fantastic collections indoors, in limited space...and doing a great job of it!!!

What was the first you bought? Then... what was the next one?

We look forward to hearing more from you...don't be shy You have just made yourself lots of new friends and there are plenty of orchid stories in the forums and in the chat room.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. You can always click on my user name and send me an email or PM (Private Message)...
