I'll go out on a limb here an say I definitely think it's a spike. It's the right shape and texture. Yay!

No, I don't think so. In any case a new root would have the distinctive white of the velamen and a light green root tip even at that size. This is either a keiki or spike. Either case its a cause for a celebration.
