I just replanted a Blc. recently and now it has 3 new roots, within a week! I think it likes me!

Definately exciting to see this...I'm new and worried that I will kill them all!

Whats a Blc? is it some Cattleya? I been getting roots on my Catts and I been very excited about it. Congradulations!!!

Hi all, it was Mothers Day here in Oz recently and my two grown up kids bought me 4 phals and a den from Ikea. I had a good look at them yesterday and the leaves weren't nice and crisp, they we a bit spongey looking. It was 10pm but I decided there and then that I had to repot them, they all have blooms which look quite good. I'm glad I did because most of the roots below the bark were dead. I chopped them all off and cleaned them up, thankfully they all have new roots coming.

Ikea has all it's plants indoors but like any non-horticultural out let they don't know how to look after them. Mind you Bunnings has a huge garden centre and you have to be qualified to work there and they are almost as bad. They are also very stingey with discounting plants, they don't discount their orchids until they are almost dead! I've managed to snag a few phals and they have all survived and flourished. They charge between $30-60 dollars for a noid phal and it'll be just a couple of leaves before they discount it to $10. Mind you it will be a nice surprise when they flower, but knowing my luck they'll all the same....hehehe.

It was actually buying those rescue phals and reading this board that started my interest in phals, I didn't have any before. I have one that is going a bit crazy, it has a large basal keiki which I believe has 3!!! spikes coming and the stem has activity at the nodes too! I'll start a thread and put some pics on it later.

Holy Moly! $30 to $60 for noids, that sure would put me out of the business... hahaha. the last 4 adult orchids I got was $1 and $4 Why so expensive?
