Old spikes experiment.
When my flowers were done and I cut back the bare spikes, I decided to try something with them, some of these spikes have sat in this bottle of water for over 6 weeks with the newest spike being in there for about 2 weeks, whats strange to me is that everyone of these spikes had these new growths at there ends, whatever there doing its slow, but there doing something still, even after being detached from there plant for 6 to 2 weeks. have any of you tried this before? and what were your results?

I've cut spikes with flowers and stuck in bud vases, and the flowers have lasted a couple of weeks. I've never tried your experiment, it will be interesting to see what happens.

Jeffery,
If you cut the bare spikes on your phals before they turned brown, this is a normal procedure for them to continue trying to set more buds, even in water. That is why it is recommended NOT to cut the bloom spikes while they are still green, as more often than not, they will branch and develop more flowers.
