What is your favourite medium?
Hi everyone,
I wanted to get an active discussion about what your favourite potting mix is. Curious to see who does what and what works for you. Mine is in the classic bark. What's ur favourite concoction on medium?

The answer depends on the orchid in question.

I used bark mix with charcoal and perlite before and my plants were doing good. Then I switched to primeagra(LECA) using semi-hydroponics and now they are doing great and very healthy with it. I have some Cattleyas in PrimeAgra(as a medium) but not into s/h, and doing pretty well too.

All of mine, but 3 are in s/h and I will probably transfer those sometime this summer. The plants in s/h are much easier for me to take care of and I don't get those pesky fungus gnats.

I agree with Joann, s/h works best for my plants.

Really loaded question.
In the end, it very much depends on the plant, the growing conditions, and in my case, your budget.
Otherwise all of mine would be in PrimeAgra s/h.

Also, there's a similar topic to this in the Advanced Discussion if you search in that forum.

I agree that it really depends on the plant.
I use a lot of bark & CHC mixes of varying sizes and proportions depending on the plant, but some of my plants are growing in moss while I would not touch moss for my Phals.

I use medium and small douglas fir bark, sponge rock (perlite) and foam mix.

Depends on the plants, really.
