Default Poor root system

I have a Vanda that has very poor root system, but doing nicely so far since i placed the whole plant outside with a lot of humidity.

I have a superthrive that i really want to try to my Vanda and see if the root system will improve. Since the Vanda is hanging freely without any medium, i water it twice a day.

Should I use superthrive in a weekly basis? or can I use it every watering?

Thank you for all the wonderful and helpful information in this board.

LOl my only attempt at vandas was long long ago in the far reaches of the land of DUH and I killed her after two years of struggle.BUT she grew roots I just failed to water often enough or right.

I think that using superthrive every watering for a while in a low strenght would not hurt a bit though.

It sure made my baby catts grow a great root system this winter !!!

I only grow Catt.s and Onc. but I have found a product from Green Barn Orchid Supply called Maxicrop Liquid Seaweed. My results have been incredible. My Catt. grew twice as many roots as normal and they are huge roots compared to what I used to get. I use it once a week for two or three months in the Spring. I highly recommend it. I haven't tried any other seaweed products so I don't know if they would be as effective.

The leaves of the Vanda are slow growing. But the roots are relatively faster growing. Especially when they're grown in good conditions.

I guess if you feel the Superthrive will help, then go for it.

But, perhaps instead of using a basket, maybe use a big log so that the roots have something to hang onto. Maybe you can hollow out the log to make it lighter, idk. Just a suggestion, you don't have to do it.
