Could i have a phal spike?
Hi there OB,
I was watering my orchids over the weekend and have noticed a little growth out of the side of one of my phals, could this be my first new spike?
One of my other phals has a nice spike growing from an old spike node i cut back.
i've been using orchid focus feed for blooming and it seems to have made my phals go mad, lots of new root tips.
Is this the spike?

My first reaction was no, it's a new root. But on second look I agree with Ted, it's a bit to soon. Give it another week and re-submit a picture.

It may also help if you can get in closer for the photo, either that or crop it more so that the growth in question is larger and easier to see.

From the angle in the picture it's hard to say. Usually, if it has a fat round point like a dull pencil, it's a root. If it looks like a mitten, it's a spike.

Yeah, difficult to say. If you can get a picture more from the side it might help (I can see that will be difficult though).
