Default Sanitizing Question - help please

Greetings,

The quotes below are from an article called Green Side Up:
Reveries of Repotting By Judy White in this months AOS online magazine.

"If you do use scissors or knives, realize that dipping them in chlorine or alcohol WILL NOT sterilize them enough to kill viruses."
"...and some way to clean the knife between plants (trisodium phosphate solution or flame — NOT just a bleach dip)."

Is anyone familiar with trisodium phosphate and is it safe to use in the house?

I use a torch but I can't imagine that chlorine or alcohol won't sterilize tools of the trade.

Without doing any research, I've never heard of it in passing.

I've never had any problem with just using a bleach solution- but I use a microtorch/flame most of the time.
Many others use these latter methods successfully.

Are they like the ones sold for caramalizing sugar? Can I justify getting one by promising my husband a creme brule

Mine was for jewelry- but they're the exact same thing: a tiny blowtorch.

SO much fun to play with.
Not to mention you feel kickass whenever you use it.

Thanks Izzie--I like it. I could see a lot of uses for this; I'll have to put it on by birthday wish list! I'm all for Brule for one and all.

I've been meaning to get a torch and recently saw an episode of America's Test Kitchen and they did a thing on torches.... their recommendation? Get the bigger torch plumbers use. I like that they now have an instant switch for these.
