This reminds me of something my brother said about the trees grown in the Biosphere.
He said after all this time, they just flopped over.
Because they weren't exposed to the burdens of nature, they never developed as strongly as they would have if they had to endure the rigors of the elements(wind, climate changes, creature activity etc) ..
Perhaps the chids are the same way that they have softened in our 'domestication' of them.
Just a random thought

We can also blame human clumsiness on Mother Nature.

I wish someone needed a corsage, that would have been perfect for the bloom. We don't see paph corsages often nowadays, but someone told me they were popular at one time.

I put the bloom in water immediately after the accident. It has an inch and a half stem on it. It still looks "alive" at this point. You think there's a chance it will "open"?
Also, should I leave the headless stem alone or cut it at the base?

hmmm....I haven't tried that yet.
My thought is that it will open. That's because many cut flowers are sent in bud and the buds still open. Cut Dends imported from asia usually have buds that still open.

That would be a cool consolation prize if it decided to bloom as a cut flower! Crossing my fingers for you.

Cut it at the base, because it won't bloom the second time.
I'm not sure if the flower will open in water. Try and tell us about the results.
