Sorry to hear about your Raisin Pie. I know how you feel with losing my new red crab recently due to bud blast when bringing it home.
Another year to look forward too though! Hang in there.

Make sure you don't take that one to the sink, hehe

I can relate to your feelings...
I was staking my spike for a better display and it got messed up...
I broke the bloom off and barely any stem was left. I couldn't even keep it as a cut flower...
It was a paph Ruby Lepard x Hsinying Web
Good thing these guys grow fast and my other paphs bloomed for me to enjoy

Guess I can join the broken slipper flower club, both flowers on my Fang Pacific cross got broken off, thankfully I got a picture before the second one got snaped. The second flower looked just like yours Fren, it was too short to put in a vase so it lived in one of those old fashioned glass salt sellers with the short stem held in place by the lid. It looked so sad.

hmmm i move my plants all the time for photos and the blooms bounce up and down, lol. It gets a little scary for the tall maudiae spikes when I move them for photo and watering.
These maudiae types have outrageously long stems. It helps the plants look more noticable for pollenators on the forest floor. It's a survival strategy, aiding the pollentation of their blooms.
These long stems are part of the reasons why maudiae type paphs are used in floral arrangements, plus they are the cheapest to produce. Still they aren't cheap...I heard in the states they are $9 a stem (probably a wholesale order). They were making floral floats for a parade or some event and they said the slipper orchids were the most expensive flower to use. I think it was the 2007 Rose Parade

That's a sad story about your Paph Ruby, Fren. What an amazing orchid you have...the little flecks make it!
There's always the next time.
