yes I understand that too and I while I dont doubt that a keiki could be a response to a plant failing and a last ditch effort to reproduce this way ....it can also just happen. Some are going to do so more often than others and .....good care and vigor will result in them more also ...it does not have to be a sign the plant is failing it can in my opinion be a sign of very good culture as well.

I agree that while struggling plants can produce them in a survival attempt, healthy plants can also produce them.

I've heard/read that Phal equestris is quite prone to producing them when it's healthy and others also have a genetic disposition to producing them at any time.

So It's in the Genes

It would seem if your lucky, it's because your plant is healthy.
and
If you're unlucky it's only because it's dieing.

I want an equestris anyway, so this is nice to know.
May I ask if there is a list of any sort, which defines which Orchids have the predisposition to produce Keiki's when healthy?
