I have also purchased several "big box specials", although rarely in bloom - congrats! Take a close look at the container. Sometimes the name is printed right on the container in small and often smeared print.

Smartie, I thought you mentioned somewhere on the forum that these type of no name big box store orchids could be named '' by the purchaser? (I can't find the thread), so, could you advise please?

I remember the thread where Smartie said that anybody could give the clonal name to the particular clone. But it doesn't mean that you can name orchid. Name is given to the specie or hybrid by the person who described this specie or bloomed particular clone for the first time in history.
