My dendrobiums have been begging me to start this thread. I don't just kill them I torture them into a slow, long and very painful (for them and me) death. My biggest problem is overwatering with a side dash of overfertilizing in the winter. I have been known to put signs on them saying "DO NOT WATER TILL ___ DATE" but a few days later I feel overwelmed with a compulsion to WATER THEM which can't be ignored. They are still alive, jsut barely, and producing keiki's (?sp) but have not reflowered.

Currently I am potting them in a bark mixture. Is there a different mixture or potting medium out there which might help them dry out faster? Any recommendations?
Thanks in advance for all the help. This forum is great!

Hi , What kind are they ? Can you post a picture of them . ? You could try lecca or Hydroton pellets . Or (cringe) Handcuffs
Overwatering is one of the hardest things to over come . Ya just can't do it .
Another question if they did bloom in the past were the bloom spikes comming from the top of the plant ?
If the dedicious type they would of been up and down the cane . Gin

Bark with charcoal. You can also change the pots - make more holes in their sides or use the baskets.

Bark, charcoal, and sponge/perlite will be the fastest draining mix.
What's even more fast draining is a basket but I doubt you would use one.
Now what type of dend is it. There are different types with different growing conditions

Sorry to hear that It is so sad when the plant dies, and even more sad when you know that you killed it.
