Rescued Phal--cut off spike?
Default Rescued Phal--cut off spike?

I rescued a phal from a friend. Sad thing-- It has one lone leaf left, though the roots may be in a bit better shape. I can see a spike starting. In the interests of the long-term well-being of the plant, I am thinking I should remove the spike so the plant can put its energy into growing more leaves and roots?

That's what I would do ... just make sure that the new growth is clearly identifiable as a flower spike and you don't lop off new roots like I did.

I agree. I would leave it long enough to be certain it's not a root, then cut it off.

For sure, wait to see what it actually is and then off with the spike!
