My 1st rebloom!! Male
Default My 1st rebloom!!

Will my first rebloom is getting ready to open its buds, but why is it so green? I didn't record any information about it, so I don't remember its colors, but I know it wasen't green.

Grats! I recently had a rebloom myself- and all the flowers started out green before going to white. The same thing is happening with my P. Amabalis.

Which is weird, because this orchid was definitely more of a mauve color the first time it bloomed. :/

Jeffery, Congrats on your first rebloom! This is normal for them to start out green. As they open thier color will change until they are fully opened.

It's normal.

The reason why is because this is a remnant of a trait that was present in all flowers in ancient times when they first came about.

Petals and sepals are really just modified leaves.

Flowers in ancient times were green and used to be able to photosynthesize.

This is part of the reason why if you rotate you plant, the flower spike and flower buds can twist. They twist because they can still photosynthesize and direct themselves towards the source of the light.

Only when they're in full bloom and gain all their other color pigments does the photosynthesis stop and they no longer turn towards the light.

Oohh!! I was really confused about that, because I have 2 Phals in bloom that still have buds closed and they very much give an indication of the flowers color, I have 1 Phals thats purple and the buds are also purple, thats were the confusion came in, so I actually want to point the buds towards the light while still in photosynthesis so the flowers all will be facing forward, it wil make for a good picture
