Will I been in the Orchid hobby for 4 months now, going on 5 and my 3rd plant is starting to spike, 1 of the orginal 4 I started with back in January, has a long way to go before this one gets flowers.

I'm afraid to say Jeffery that that looks more like a root to me than a spike. Phals grow them in a similar place to spikes and it's always difficult to tell initially.

Anyway roots are good... add to the overall health of the plant

This is why I was fooled, guess it depends on the plant, these new root growths are all white.

Actively growing roots often have either bright green or red tips, as they lengthen the silvery looking part appears behind the tip. Once they stop growing the green/red slowly moves to the very tip until it's all silver. Roots that had previously stopped growing can start up again as I've seen many times.

I always looks for the green or red tips to know if one of my plants is in a phase of root growth.
