Thank You All!

Well I have to say thank you all, for the suggestions and the amusing sidetrack. I had that song in my head all of yesterday :)

I've perused the images I could find and have a short list.

Phal:
equestris var ilocus
equestris Blue Lip
stuartiana var nobilis
stuartiana var punstatissima
Mini Mark

Had to be strick with myself to get it down to these. I think I may try and get more than just one though.
So.....
:thankyou

Good luck Triffid, keep us posted please.
Al

P.S.
Sorry about the hi-jack. We can get sidetracked very easily here.

Triffid 03-18-2010 08:57 AM

I'll let you know how it goes. Can't wait to get my sticky mitts on one or more of those beauties.

PS
:) No need to apologize, tangents can provide much entertainment.

Why is there such a huge difference in price between the Phal stuartiana at Orchidweb and BigLeaf? It looks like both are in spike and are similar sizes, is it the quality?
Phal stuartiana (short stem) [B8-19] - $135.00 : Big Leaf Orchids, Fragrant and Novelty Phalaenopsis
Orchid Web: Phal. stuartiana

Tropicgirl 03-18-2010 12:24 PM

Wow, that's a huge difference!

Triffid 03-18-2010 12:29 PM

That is a bit of a gap!? :hmm

Possible reasons I can think of.

a. One is grown from the seed the other maybe from Keiki?
b. Location of Business, like a pint of beer in the UK being 2 to 3x the price in London compared to anywhere else?
c. Business Over heads. The base cost of fertilizer, potting medium etc, the pot it come in?
d. ...And quality?
e. Extra profit.

....Still that is a bizarre jump in price!

I know, right?!!? I just thought I would check out another vendor (I ALWAYS check around to find good deals/reviews, no matter what I'm buying) and HOLY COW!!! $100 difference!?!? Are BigLeaf's really that amazing? I guess it's possible.

Triffid 03-18-2010 12:52 PM

It could always be a typo!?

Bird Song Farm 03-18-2010 12:52 PM

One reason is because Big Leaf's offering is a special line bred plant. It has been bred for more compact stems, thus closer flowers, making for a "bunching habit".
