Sometimes bottom leaves just die. It happens and is probably good for the plant. You have a new leaf growing out of the crown, so it's probably just time for the bottom leaf or leaves to die off. Otherwise the plant looks fine. I would just keep doing what you're doing.

And as for watering, if two times a week was working for you, maybe you should go back to that. Watering schedules are different for everyone, and you should stick with what's working for your plant. The dying bottom leaves don't necessarily mean you were doing something wrong.
