Phalas to trim or not? Male
Default Phalas to trim or not?

I have 2 phalaenopsis. Both flowered in the fall. With one the stem died off and now new leaf growth is developing. With the other the stem stayed green and I cut it at a node. New growth is developing there although it is rather small. At this stage it suggests any new flowering will not be verdant/ rich.
Should I cut the stem at the base so the plant can devote its energies to more leaf growth?

I have tried to get a plant to rebloom off a current spike. it hasen't ever worked much for me. I think the best thing to do would be to cut it off and let the plant focus on growing new leaves and letting it get energy to spike again.

In earlier days I sometimes cut a Phal spike to rebloom, but at this point I wholeheartedly agree with what Ray says. Some Phals, such as cornu-cervi, naturally rebloom from old spikes and so I never cut them. However, I allow the plant complete control of the decision.
